An Ode to Falling Short
As someone who partakes in solo adventures, I am in the unique position of controlling the narrative around my successes and failures. I am the one only one who gets to experience every step, every mile, every decision made along the way, and how I choose to communicate that experience can often be a direct representation of how I do, or do not want to be perceived…
Chapter One: The Nakasendo Way
Well…it’s HAPPENING. The first big adventure for Running With Reginald! I'm excited to announce that on November 17th, Reginald and I will be attempting a five day, self-supported run along Japan's historic Nakasendo Way (中仙道).
Adventure Awaits! Stepping Into the Nonprofit World
Well it’s official, Reginald and I have some exciting news to share…WE ARE NOW A REGISTERED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION! This post will cover not only the basis of the mission itself, but also how we got to this point and how you can help us achieve our goals going forward. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead and we hope that you will join us on this adventure.
Fueling In Sport: An Honest Account of Misinformation
One of the most impactful pieces of coaching I ever received was an off-handed comment regarding my weight and how it affected my performance. The word impactful can mean many things, and while I don’t want to look at my experience with food and weight as strictly negative or positive, I do want to be honest about my path and highlight what moments and conversation have influenced me along the way. Regardless of where you are in your journey, please know that there are resources and help available, and that although progress might not always look linear, it doesn’t mean that you aren’t moving in the right direction.
On Athletic Insecurity and Individualism
I was pretty sick a few weeks ago. Like 1500s, family waiting outside your bedchamber, hoping that the leeches work kind of sick. I haven’t been knocked off my feet like that in a while, and it served as a bit of a forced reflection. As I lay there, trying to be just dramatic enough to get extra attention from Daria, my brain surprisingly didn’t go down it’s usual alleyway of concern…
Strength is quiet and kind
A few years ago, when I started dating my wife Daria, I noticed a poster hanging in her room. Six words, surrounding an illustration of flowers that read, “There is Strength in Your Softness”. The poster sparked a conversation about how we perceive strength in our own lives, and where it was rooted in our personal philosophy. We also discussed the common misrepresentations of strength, and why there seemed to be more and more confusion surrounding the subject…
The ‘what’ and the ‘why’ - An introduction to Running with Reginald
First and foremost, yes, I am a child. I absolutely wanted an excuse to run around the mountains with a teddy bear named Reginald (and document all the cool things we do together), BUT I wanted to use the experience as an excuse to write about all things running, philosophy, and adventure, while spreading joy and ultimately giving back to others. Running With Reginald is a concept I’ve been toying with for quite some time, but it honestly didn’t involve a stuffed animal until a couple months ago…
